  2.                      ONE LANGUAGE FOR ALL PEOPLE
  3.                  - declaration of the Grossman Club -
  4.  
  5.    If you are fed up with the divided world and the problem of multilingual
  6.    communication join the Grossman Club.
  7.    To become a member of the club you only have to declare your wish for
  8.    obeying the VIII commandments of membership.
  9.    Members of the Grossman Club have no doubts that the communication in
  10.    the future borderless world will be based on one language only and that
  11.    this fact will allow to save enormous costs of translation, training,
  12.    misunderstanding and prejudice the mankind has to pay for its
  13.    multilinguality.
  14.    Members of the club declare to obey the following VIII commandments:
  15.      I - UNITY - To avoid rivalrly between languages, members of the
  16.          Grossman Club avail of the widespread usage of English in the
  17.        $ global communication. They consider English as the international
  18.          language for the present and only decisions at the highest level
  19.          (e.g. United Nations) could change this choice.
  20.      II - NONFINANCING - to accelerate the transition to unilingual
  21.          community, all sources of finance that support noninternational
  22.          languages have to be dried up. In consequence, members of the
  23.          Grossman Club do not appropriate their incomes to buy books,
  24.          newspapers, records, video casettes, computer media etc. that use
  25.          noninternational languages.
  26.      III - NONPROLIFERATION - members of the Grossman Club use only the
  27.          international language in their publications, public appearances,
  28.          artistic output etc.
  29.      IV - NONPROPAGATION - to cut off the propagation of the present,
  30.          multilingual status quo to the next generation, members of the
  31.          Grossman Club bring up their children in the international
  32.          language as the first language.
  33.      V - PROMOTION - members of the Grossman Club declare to enroll two
  34.          new members within two months after their own admission.
  35.          They spare no efforts trying to change the view of other persons
  36.          on the question of multilinguality.
  37.      VI - REHABITUATION - members of the Grossman Club try to change
  38.          their own and others' linguistic habits. This amounts to using
  39.          the international language in their daily conversations,
  40.          personal notes, private and possibly official correspondence etc.
  41.      VII - SELF-IMPROVEMENT - a newly admitted member of the Grossman
  42.          Club does not have to have a command of the international
  43.          language. However, all members are obliged to constantly
  44.          improve their linguistic skills. This must counteract the
  45.          harmful conviction that a genuine linguistic education may last
  46.          any shorter than the whole life of an individual or that
  47.          truly deep interpersonal communication is possible without
  48.          painstaking efforts to perfect of one's language skills.
  49.      VIII - CONCILIATION - realization of all the aforementioned
  50.          commandments is potentially dangerous especially when it has
  51.          to be pursued on a highly bigoted, irrational or nationalistic
  52.          ground. Therefore members of the Grossman Club are always
  53.          sensitive to feelings and reactions of other people and do not
  54.          allow the struggle for unity to create new divisions.

  56.   The GROSSMAN CLUB idea was born in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1984.
